From composing an authentic voice and establishing relatable, compelling motivations, to refining your craft in order to make your characters shine, this workshop will address all things character-related in children's books. We will cover the role of the narrator, discuss the difference between flat and round characters, and have several opportunities for class participation where we will use what we've learned to build genuine, believable characters that young readers will love.
Zoie Janelle Konneker (she/her) is an Assistant Editor at Peachtree Publishing Company in Atlanta, Georgia. She interned at two local publishing houses before graduating from Georgia Tech in with a BS in Literature, Media, & Communication in 2020. Between graduation and her acceptance of a full-time role at Peachtree, she worked as a Foster Coordinator at a metro-Atlanta animal shelter and attributes her love for cats and color-coded spreadsheets to her time there. Her goal is to leave the world better than she found it through elevating underrepresented voices in children’s literature and putting relatable, relevant stories in the hands of those that need them most.
