SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Please follow general First Pages Submission Guidelines, as follows.
SPACING: First pages should be double spaced. To check spacing, go to Line & Paragraph Spacing on the toolbar, check the spacing, but also check the custom spacing by scrolling down and clicking on that. Before and After fields should be 0.
HEADER: Please show a header with Author Name, Title and Word Count. To make the header, go to Insert on your Tool Bar, then Headers and Footers, then Header and type your Author Name and Title and Word Count.
Example: Henny Penny’s Weather Worries by Lynne Marie (500 Words)
GENERAL FORMATTING: You may start at the first line of the page and continue to the last line. Try to craft your last line (as well as your first lines and body of text) in such a way to intrigue the reader and inspire them to want to read more.
Indent new paragraphs.
Paginating or double-spacing between paragraphs is helpful to editors and agents reading manuscripts. Page #s can be on the same line as the text, as can art notes that fit.
Double spacing between lines in the text is easier to read for editors and agents to read, and is the industry standard.
Do not cram your work onto one page. Try to present proper spacing, pacing and flow.
Ivan Taurisano was born in Rome, Italy, and moved to the United States a decade ago to pursue a children's book publishing career. He is an Associate Editor at Abrams, specializing in children's licenses and IP, including novelty books, board books, graphic novels, and select MG and YA titles. Ivan is particularly interested in kid-centric, humorous, action-packed stories with commercial appeal and compelling characters. The guiding principle of his work is that a child whose life is transformed by a book will always be one step closer to becoming an adult who will transform the world. Ivan's all-time favorite book is James and the Giant Peach, and his best friend is a chihuahua named Bilbo.
