Agents and editors say that voice is the most important aspect of your writing. But what is voice? Voice establishes the tone of your story, tells the reader what kind of personality your narrator has, and gives a feeling of time and place. How does one find the right voice, and make it come across effectively? In this workshop, we will demystify the process by defining voice and analyzing mentor texts, and you will be supplied with a plethora of advice to take on your voice-finding journey.

Presenter Information
Eve Adler
Eve Adler worked as an editor for over sixteen years before becoming an agent. She's building her list with authors and illustrators of board books, picture books, early readers, chapter books, and select middle grade projects. She’s drawn to stories that make kids feel comforted, loved, and understood; to diverse voices; to ideas that break the mold; to projects that meet kids where they are developmentally; and to books that expand kids’ worlds while helping them understand their own. She loves developing ideas with authors and illustrators, and finding the right home for each project!
Submission Information
Ever will accept submissions from attendees following the webinar beginning Monday, September 26, 2026, until Friday, March 26, 2027. She will accept submissions in the following categories and genres:
Category – illustration portfolios, board books, picture books, early readers, chapter books, graphic novels
Genre – fiction, nonfiction, historical fiction, realistic, mystery, informational, humorous, STEM/STEAM, folk tales/fairytales
Attendees will submit their work via a special Query Manager link, which will be provided after the webinar.

Refund Policy:
SCBWI is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. SCBWI Regions are managed by unpaid volunteers. Region funds support programs that benefit SCBWI members.
As part of the event planning process, Regional Advisors must sign contracts with venues, speakers, critiquers, vendors, and others who will be providing services during a regional activity. Registration fees collected for an event must cover the cost of these contracts; therefore, refunds are the exception rather than the rule. In the rare case a refund is granted, it will always be less any credit card processing fees and any other processing expenses.
Requests to refund registration fees for in-person activities will be decided on a case-by-case basis. By registering for an event, you acknowledge that you have read and accept the event’s refund policy.
