Join SCBWI Japan online to find out the ins-and-outs of self-publishing with 'authorpreneur' Sarah Holding

In this talk author Sarah Holding will cover how she got into self-publishing, hybrid models and their upsides and downsides.

Sarah will cover a range of topics associated with the independent publishing business including how to self-publish with your own imprint, develop editorial, production and promotional skillsets, in addition to harnessing useful digital tools and platforms.

She’ll also tackle issues around the author and AI, how to get invited into schools, and ways you can expand your author presence through offering creative writing experiences and residencies.

Bio Sarah Holding

Formerly an architect and academic, Sarah Holding is a full-time author of children’s and young adult fiction, who divides her time between living and writing in London and Japan. She has just completed ‘Origami Girl’, a middle-grade novel about a summer friendship set in rural Japan, to be published in 2027. When she’s not writing, Sarah enjoys playing jazz and making art, is a keen member of the satoyama-kai in her village and has just started learning the Japanese tea ceremony.

She is known for her best-selling cli-fi (climate- fiction) adventure trilogy, ‘SeaBEAN’ (2018), which is now taught in many schools around the world because of its redemptive environmental message.

Sarah's three YA novels ‘Chameleon’ (2020), ‘Blackloop’ (2023) and ‘Road to True North’ (2025), all feature quirky teenage protagonists tackling challenging circumstances and relationships head-on.
