Tales, Tips, and (PhotoShop) Tools: Working from References--and Making Them Your Own

Nov 09, 2025

Online event

Ever dreamed of being a model? How about a stand-in model—for your own projects—when no one else is available? Penny will generously share how you can pose as your characters, if needed—in photos and videos also shot by you. Plus, she will offer some suggestions for capturing angles, movement, and emotions in the poses she takes, and for some of the characteristics of the genders and the ages she's standing in for. Penny, who has illustrated more than 100 books for the commercial, educational and self-publishing markets, will also give a craft demonstration using the Photoshop tools she favors to achieve her watercolor-like digital illustrations in her recognizable style—a happy world built of pastel colors, soft-looking surfaces, and realism. Additionally, there will be fifteen available critiques from Penny. She will offer written feedback on up to three images per submission for those who wish to add on a critique in addition to the webinar. The webinar price is $15 for premium members, and an additional $55 for adding a written critique on up to 3 images, must submit images by October 31. The webinar recording will also be available to registered attendees for thirty days afterward.
