Selene Castrovilla is the award-winning author of eighteen books, many of them for children and young adults. Her book Seeking Freedom: The Untold Story of Fortress Monroe and the Ending of Slavery in America is a 2023 American Library Association/Association of Library Service to Children Notable Book, a Cooperative Children's Book Center 2023 Choice for best books, a New York Public Library Best Book of 2022, a best American history book on Betsy Bird's School Library Journal blog, and the recipient of three starred reviews. Her latest book This is Tap: Savion Glover Finds His Funk is a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection. Look for George Washington's Spectacular Spectacles: The Glasses that Saved America coming soon. Her young adult novels have garnered many awards, and she has a forthcoming young adult nonfiction book in free verse. Selene holds an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School and a BA in English from New York University. Jacqueline Woodson, Selene's teacher at The New School, calls her "a writer worth watching."
