The Long Haul: Going from Draft to Polished Manuscript

In part one, Selene will give a talk on revision, giving you solid advice on how to get your manuscript to shine.

Part two will be a Zoom session and we will workshop your work based on what we discussed in our first session. Everyone may submit two pages, which Selene will give your thoughts on. Everyone is invited to chime in as well!

Selene Castrovilla is the award-winning author of eighteen books, many of them for children and young adults. Her book Seeking Freedom: The Untold Story of Fortress Monroe and the Ending of Slavery in America is a 2023 American Library Association/Association of Library Service to Children Notable Book, a Cooperative Children's Book Center 2023 Choice for best books, a New York Public Library Best Book of 2022, a best American history book on Betsy Bird's School Library Journal blog, and the recipient of three starred reviews. Her latest book This is Tap: Savion Glover Finds His Funk is a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection. Her young adult novels have garnered many awards, and she has a forthcoming young adult nonfiction book in free verse. Selene holds an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School and a BA in English from New York University. Jacqueline Woodson, Selene's teacher at The New School, calls her "a writer worth watching."
