Webinar: Picture Book Pagination with Danielle Collins, Assistant Editor at Simon & Schuster: Beach Lane Books and Paula Wiseman Books

Jul 12, 2024

Online event

Pagination, pacing, page-turns—these are some key elements that can make or break a picture book. In this workshop, you’ll learn the mechanics of picture book pagination. Such as, what’s a signature? And how do those lovely endpapers factor into the page count? Then, we’ll look at pagination from a craft perspective, exploring examples of how careful pagination can keep the reader engaged by building tension, orchestrating surprises, encouraging pauses, and making them want to reread time and again.

Playback will be available until September 30, 2024.

BONUS: All registrants will be entered into a drawing to win a written critique by Danielle Collins. AND all registrants can submit to her for three months following the webinar.

Danielle Collins

Danielle Collins is an Assistant Editor at Beach Lane Books and Paula Wiseman Books at Simon & Schuster, where she works on fiction and nonfiction picture books. Danielle is drawn to both the factual and fantastical, or even a little bit of both, and she is passionate about stories that inspire curiosity, empathy, and joy in young readers. Danielle grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, went to college in Los Angeles, and now lives in Brooklyn, where she can often be found at bookstores and bakeries.

Danielle's Wish List

Danielle is interesting in critiquing and acquiring fiction and nonfiction picture books. She’s looking for books that tackle big feelings with a light & lyrical touch, and is especially interested in those that explore themes of self-discovery and self-expression. At the moment, she would especially love to see more humorous, character-driven stories from underrepresented creators. Nonfiction about lesser-known people, periods, and fascinating STEM topics always piques her interest. Above all, Danielle loves books with captivating writing, memorable characters, and a whole lot of heart.
