Legacy Interviews

The SCBWI Impact and Legacy Fund is dedicated to preserving the deep, storied history of our children’s book community. We are so proud to collect and curate legacy interviews with modern masters of the craft of children’s book creation. These interviews are available as a resource to the entire children’s book community. No SCBWI membership required.

Jane Yolen and Heidi E.Y. Stemple on the Art and Craft of Picture Books

Our inaugural Legacy Interview is with the incomparable Jane Yolen. At the time of filming, Jane has published over 400 children’s books, with more on the way. Her work has received many awards including the Caldecott Medal and the Golden Kite, among others. She has been called the Hans Christian Anderson of America. In this interview, she focuses on the art and craft of creating picture books, and includes a special reading of her Caldecott-winning book Owl Moon.
