Our July Monthly Meeting featured P. J. Hoover, author of HOMER’S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE, THE HIDDEN CODE, and TUT: THE STORY OF MY IMMORTAL LIFE, among other titles. P. J. offered an overview of self-publishing.
In this presentation, some of the topics covered were:
• The difference between traditional and self-publishing
• The benefits of self-publishing
• The benefits of trying to publish traditionally
• Where to self-publish
• ISBN numbers and where to get one
• Where to get cover art and interior art
• Reasons to enroll your book in Kindle Unlimited, and what this means
• How to request rights back for a traditionally published book
• Reasons to have an editor, copyeditor, and proofreader–and where to find them
• How to price a book, and how much you may make
• Ways to have an audiobook for your book
P. J. presented self-publishing as an empowering choice and a way to gain some amount of control in publishing. She also encouraged publishing quality work, and putting thought into covers, editing, interior layout, and art. She expressed, “There are many reasons an author may choose to self-publish, and in today's market it's a really great choice to have.”
