Karen S. Chow is a Taiwanese-American author, who started writing novels as a college sophomore at Arizona State University, while earning a degree in electrical engineering. Now, she is an engineer by day and middle-grade novelist by night. Her debut middle-grade novel, Miracle (2023, Ottaviano Books/Little, Brown), is a heart story that combines her love for music with her experiences witnessing her father passing away from pancreatic cancer. Her next novel, releasing Jan 2026, is about her engineering job. She lives in Gilbert, AZ, with her family. Karen is a winner of the SCBWI Out of the Margins Award (2022). She is represented by Andrea Cascardi at Transatlantic Agency.
We are thrilled to share that Karen Chow has accepted the role of our new Assistant Regional Advisor of the Arizona Region of SCBWI.
Karen has been a guiding force for our regional E&I team and has also worked with our SCBWI headquarters E&I endeavors.

Her second novel, about a girl reconciling two halves of her life after her parents' divorce while learning about engineering, comes out January 2026. Karen has been a member of SCBWI since 2019, and won the SCBWI Out of the Margins Award in 2022. She served one year as the AZ E&I co-lead, and she's excited to join the AZ regional team!
