Our SPARK Coordinators’ goal is to create a community for our members that are independently published. Our meetings focus on networking and information sharing as well as the business aspects of publishing, resources, community events, marketing, indie vs. traditionally published, goal setting, and more.

The Essential Guide to Self-Publishing a Children’s Book
Check out SCBWI’s guidebook, The Essential Guide to Self-Publishing a Children’s Book is available to all SCBWI members to download for free. Print copies are available to order as well for the cost of shipping. The guide is a comprehensive look at all aspects of self-publishing. It offers a nuts-and-bolts look at the seven stages of publishing; details the various self-publishing platforms; discusses marketing, promotion, subsidiary rights, and sales; and outlines models for making a living as an indie author.

ALLi Self Publishing Services Directory
Anyone who has gone the independent publishing route knows that you can’t do it alone. You need a solid team of professionals in your corner. However, it’s not always easy to sort the ethical service providers from the scams. However, as an SCBWI member, you have an advantage! As part of SCBWI’s organizational membership with the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi), all SCBWI members now have access to ALLi’s annual Self-Publishing Services Directory.
This digital manual is a comprehensive list of editors, designers, copyeditors, publishers, publicity services, and providers of writing tools. Each provider has been thoroughly vetted by ALLi’s Watchdog Team for business ethics and quality. This book is a must-have guide for anyone self-publishing or thinking about self-publishing.
