Our aim is to create a vibrant community of kids’ book creators through meetings, conferences, online events and a monthly newsletter. We connect members with each other and industry professionals so we can develop our craft, learn about the world of publishing, secure publication and have a lot of fun. SCBWI in Australia is divided into two main regions: Australia East and Australia West, with state chapters. Visit the Meet the Team page to find the SCBWI leader near you.
SCBWI Australia East are proud to work alongside many wonderful organisations and charities that champion children’s literacy and a foster a love of reading both here and overseas. From The Children’s Book Council of Australia to the literacy charities, Room to Read and Books in Homes, we proudly support their work and their goal of creating a love of books in children.
SCBWI Australia East would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet and work, and all traditional custodians of country throughout Australia. We recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ continuing connection to land, place, waters and community. We pay our respects to their cultures, country and elders past present and emerging.
For over 50 years the Australian Society of Authors has been providing advocacy, support and advice to Australian creators. One of their great achievements was the campaign for Public Lending Rights and Educational Lending Rights which provides payments to creators for works in libraries, as well as the foundation of the Copyright Agency, which has created an additional income stream for many writers.
Thank you to Jess Racklyeft for lending her gorgeous artwork so we could create a webpage as vibrant and energetic as our SCBWI Australia East community. All the artwork on our website banner and menu tiles are from her picture book titles with Affirm Press. You can see more of Jess's artwork on her website.
