These unpaid volunteer positions involve running the region: coordinating volunteers, putting on large events, handling finances, reporting to the SCBWI main office, keeping records, assisting regional members and working at the national LA and/or NY conferences. Appointees must be SCBWI CenCal members who live within the region. These positions must be approved by the SCBWI main office.

Volunteer Positions: Advisory Board:
These volunteers work all year planning, advertising and implementing programming. Advisory Board volunteers must be current SCBWI CenCal members. Prerequisite skills include good communication and organizational skills, a knowledge of or willingness to learn Zoom meeting platform, Dropbox, Google Docs, forms, and sheets. Must attend two Zoom board meetings and help with Writers’ Day general assistance. Two-to-three-year term with a three-month trial period for new volunteers. Benefits: All receive a free membership for the year following their year of service and free Writers’ Day entry. Note: Memberships are paid in January regardless of when memberships expire.
Website & Zoom Technology Coordinator:
Receives information for each upcoming event, ensures that the regional website is up to date, and designs web pages, registrations and online flyers to promote events. Troubleshoots web issues. Runs technology at Writers’ Day and online webinars.
Critique Group Coordinator: The Critique Coordinator keeps a list of CenCal members interested in forming or joining private critique groups. These groups are not sponsored or run by SCBWI or SCBWI CenCal but we do help interested members find one another. Please contact the critique coordinator to add your name to a list and receive contact information for others interested in critique group.
PAL Coordinator: The Pal coordinator organizes meetings for PAL members on topics of interest to published members and serves as a resource for these members.
COUNTY MINGLE HOSTS:
*Kern County Mingle Host: Plans, hosts and reports on at least three small free mixers for local members per year including one critique.
*Santa Barbara County Mingle Host: Plans, hosts and reports on at least three small free mixers for local members per year including one critique.
*San Luis Obispo County Mingle Host: Plans, hosts and reports on at least three small free mixers for local members per year including one critique.
*Ventura County Mingle Host: Plans, hosts and reports on at least three small free mixers for local members per year including one critique.
Publicity: Receives information for upcoming events from RA and Webmaster, sends out publicity to members, newspapers, Twitter, SCBWI discussion board, regional Facebook page and listserv to promote events.
Regional Kite Tales Editor: Gathers and submits regular contributions to the tri-regional Kite Tales Blog editor.
These jobs involve a two-year commitment to work on Writers’ Day arrangements with a three-month trial period for new volunteers. Must be current SCBWI CenCal members. Prerequisite skills include good communication and organizational skills, a knowledge of or willingness to learn Zoom meeting platform, Dropbox, Google Docs, forms, and sheets. Duties begin several months prior to Writers Day. Benefits include free entry to Writers Day and an invitation to the Writers Day faculty dinner. Must attend Zoom Writers Day planning meetings and assist with Writers Day registration and/or transporting speakers to/from the airport, as requested.
Catering Liaison: Orders all food for Writers’ Day, interacts with cafeteria; coordinates with Pre-Writers Day dinner host, and arranges post Writers’ Day dinner.
Writers’ Day Contest Coordinator: Organizes all aspects of the Writers Day writing contests.
