SCBWI Florida

Welcome, Florida authors, translators, and illustrators! With programming organized and run by volunteers, our region offers free monthly meetings, online workshops and in-person events. As the Florida chapter of SCBWI, our goal is to provide educational support and meaningful community for everyone with a story to tell. Children's books are an art form, and we strive to provide content, tools, and events that nurture the limitless imaginations and creativity of our members. Questions? Always feel welcome to reach out to your Regional Team at [email protected]. Welcome home, kid lit creators!

Feeling uninspired? Stuck in a creative rut? Join us for our Zoom creating sessions open to anyone, where you can work on your individual projects for an hour with other authors, translators, and illustrators. This session is designed as an open-ended, in-and-out style meeting, so feel free to drop in and out at any point! Power Hours will take place at 8:00 PM EST, the third Monday of every other month.

Ever wonder how a graphic novel is created, written, drawn, and published? Hear from Susie Yi, author-illustrator of 9 graphic novels, as she breaks down the steps of going from script to page, the art of paneling and visual narrative structure, speech balloons, lettering, and how art styles and written text work together to convey meaning. At the end of this workshop, you will leave with a stronger understanding of whether the graphic novel and comic format is right for your story and the steps to do it.

It's SPOOKY SEASON, storytellers! Come celebrate with a festive evening of food, drinks, and revelry at a beautiful farm venue in north central Florida! Saturday, Oct. 24 | 6:00-9:00 p.m.
