New England SCBWI will once again be hosting Agent/Editor Day for picture books/picture book dummies, portfolios, graphic novels, middle grade/YA novels, and chapter books. This is a popular event that sells out fast and the new SCBWI website does not allow us to password protect and use a lottery. Registration will go live on August 25th at 8:00 am ET.

There's ample information about how to *get* an agent, but virtually nothing about how to create a successful working relationship with them. Without any guidance, many authors approach this partnership in ways that contribute to burnout and ultimately crush their creativity. In this workshop, Isabel Sterling (multi-published author & master certified life coach) breaks down her approach to working well with your agent, relationship red flags, and what to do if you’re just not a good fit.
SCBWI New England is thrilled to announce a brand new retreat for PAL members! Open to traditionally published authors and illustrators, as well as editors and agents, the Acadia Retreat will be held October 24-28, 2024 at the Schoodic Institute in Acadia National Park in Maine. Amidst the beauty of the park and Maine's rugged coastline, attendees will gain insight into creating great school programs, gather tools for magical manuscripts, and have the opportunity to promote published titles to young readers. Or just come for the landscape and kidlit community. All PAL kidlit creators, agents and editors are welcome to this special inaugural retreat! Our stellar faculty for this inaugural retreat are: Eileen Robinson (Editorial Director/Executive Editor, Charlesbridge Moves), Kevin Hawkes (Author/Illustrator), and Alison Johnson (Director of School Programs for Island Readers & Writers). In addition to faculty presentations, working time, optional school visit consultations, and play time, the afternoon of October 27th we will host the Foggy River Children's Book Festival to celebrate our books and each other out in the community! **UPDATE 9/23/24: Registration remains open, but new registrants won't have books for sale at the festival. Folks who are traditionally published in magazines, journals, or for other markets (adult or academic) or those who want some extra quiet working time can take advantage of the festival time to stay at Schoodic and work or hike!**
SCBWI New England is heading to NCTE! We will be hosting a booth in the Exhibit Hall, and want to promote our members' work to the thousands of teachers who will be there! Learn about the opportunities we've created for members below.
