Kick off your fall projects with like-minded creatives and treat yourself to an afternoon of inspirational energy at this in-person class with author Dana Rau! Writing is a solitary endeavor, and yet, over my 30-year career of writing for children, I’ve found that the most creative sparks fly when I am creating with others. The past few years, I’ve also started exploring other mediums beyond words in my art studio at Whiting Mills in Winsted, Connecticut, and I’d love to invite my NE SCBWI community to join me for an afternoon. Through a series of writing and art exercises, we’ll watch unexpected brilliance, amazing surprises, and creative camaraderie emerge. Whether you are an author, illustrator, both, pre-published, or much-published, come share in the fun!

SCBWI New England is thrilled to announce a brand new retreat for PAL members! Open to traditionally published authors and illustrators, as well as editors and agents, the Acadia Retreat will be held October 24-28, 2024 at the Schoodic Institute in Acadia National Park in Maine. Amidst the beauty of the park and Maine's rugged coastline, attendees will gain insight into creating great school programs, gather tools for magical manuscripts, and have the opportunity to promote published titles to young readers. Or just come for the landscape and kidlit community. All PAL kidlit creators, agents and editors are welcome to this special inaugural retreat! Our stellar faculty for this inaugural retreat are: Eileen Robinson (Editorial Director/Executive Editor, Charlesbridge Moves), Kevin Hawkes (Author/Illustrator), and Alison Johnson (Director of School Programs for Island Readers & Writers). In addition to faculty presentations, working time, optional school visit consultations, and play time, the afternoon of October 27th we will host the Foggy River Children's Book Festival to celebrate our books and each other out in the community!
