DANCES WITH WORDS

On July 23, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Richard Lederer and Bill Shipper will conduct a free musical presentation, "Dances with

Words" for our chapter members and guests, followed by a book signing.

Location: Rancho Penasquitos Branch Library

Address:  13330 Salmon River Rd, San Diego, CA 92129

Union-Tribune language columnist Richard Lederer and musical comedian Bill Shipper team up to deliver a delightful double dose of wordplay in music and song. These two verbivores present memorable musicality, rhythmic rhymes, tons of tonality, and heaps of hilarity, all with gracious grammar and alluring alliteration.

Celebrating the wonderful world of the English language with topics such as musical idioms, wordplay, and limericks, DANCES WITH WORDS is truly learning dressed up to have fun.

Bios. Union-Tribune language columnist Richard Lederer is the author of 65 books about language, history, and humor, including his current titles, A Feast of Words, American History for Everyone, Anguished English, and Jest for the Pun of It. Dr. Lederer is a founding co-host of “A Way With Words,” broadcast on KPBS. He has been named International Punster of the Year and Toastmasters International’s Golden Gavel winner.

Musical comedian Bill Shipper writes songs imbued with lyrical, satirical, quasi-empirical tunes guaranteed to tickle your punny bone. Whether poking fun at foodies or business and technology with favorites such as “My Lover Loves Liver,” “Tears on My Spreadsheet,” and “Dirty Data,” Bill never fails to deliver a hilarious, delightful concert.
