Katya Tabakh spent her childhood immersed in art. As an adult she still enjoys drawing, painting, making and teaching crafts, and - of course! - writing and illustrating children's books.
After graduating from the Moscow Art Theater School with an MA in Theatrical Set Design, Katya decided to pursue a different artistic direction by starting a career in classical drawn animation. She was employed as an animator in the US and Russia for many years. Yet, pivoting from animation to book illustration has allowed her the full freedom to express her creative voice. For her illustrations she uses colored pencils, watercolors, inks, and digital tools. During her leisure time, Katya loves hiking and finding inspiration in nature.
Katya is the First-Place Winner of the SCBWI 2017 Tomie dePaola Illustration Award. My Papa My Prince picture book with her illustrations received a Starred review and it was also recognized as one of the Best Indie Books of the Year 2022 by Kirkus Reviews.
