Bio:
Hi! I’m Karen E. Hong, a children’s book author-illustrator.
I thank my Mom for reading lots of picture books to me when I was little! Those were most delightful memories of my childhood. In my adult life, I took a detour with architecture and urban planning, until I began reading to my children and the joy of picture books was rekindled in me.
I am drawn to layered images that encourage discovery, complex subject matter like grief and aging, and stories that explore the Asian American experience.
I am represented by Wendi Gu at HG Literary, and live in the San Francisco Bay Area in California with my family.
My debut picture book, “Tea Leaf Eggs”, is about an elderly Chinese man who escapes his nursing home, and is coming February 2027. Pre-order now (at my website) for inspirational egg-themed stickers!
