Emma Fisher is the winner of the Emerging Artist Award for the SCBWI California: San Francisco/South Illustrator Day 2025
Emma Fisher is an illustrator based in San Francisco. She writes and illustrates stories for curious children and adults. Much of her work engages with the myths and fairy tales she loved as a child, using them as a starting point to explore changes wrought on the body by disability and illness, as well as to stoke awe and wonder at the natural world.
Emma carries her sketchbook everywhere, drawing equal inspiration from city streets and tree-covered landscapes. Rooted in play and experimentation, her work layers printmaking, painting, and collage to create richly textured compositions.
In 2025, Emma earned her MFA in illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York, receiving the Paula Rhodes Memorial Award for her illustrated middle-grade novel called The Blackthorn Woods. She holds a BA in Art History from Brown University and a certificate in Disability Studies from CUNY. She is currently seeking representation.
