Breezers Making Waves: Ain Heath Drew

Interview with Author Ain Heath Drew

“It means a lot to put a work into the world that celebrates Africa and the diaspora.”

This month’s Breezer Making Waves is Ain Heath Drew, author of AYO’S ADVENTURE: Across the African Diaspora from Afro to Zulu.

Let’s dig into Ain’s news!

Hi Ain. What are we celebrating with you?

My September release, "Ayo's Adventure: Across the African Diaspora from Afro to Zulu" was recently added to two lists and won an award: 2025 Notable Social Studies Trade Book for Young People, 2025 Children’s Book Council Librarian Favorites Winner, 2025 English Association’s Non-Fiction Picture Book Award Winner.

Congratulations! What does this opportunity mean to you?

As books with a strong emphasis on race and culture are being banned, it means a lot to put a work into the world that celebrates Africa and the diaspora. Being recognized by the CBC and EA is truly the icing on the cake.
