This month’s Breezer Making Waves is Johnna Stein, author of Untangling Hope.
Let’s dig into Johnna’s news!
Hi Johnna. What are we celebrating with you?
My MG novel Untangling Hope received a Christopher Award— In a nutshell, Christopher Award winners celebrate the humanity of people in a positive way. Award winners encourage audiences to see the better side of human nature, and motivate artists and the general public to use their best instincts on behalf of others.
Here is what they said about my book: “On behalf of the Christopher Awards, congratulations to Johnna on writing such a heartwarming story about the foster care experience and the difference that a loving, understanding foster parent can make in a child's life.”
Congratulations! What does this opportunity mean to you?
I'd love to share about my journey to indie publication and show that indie books are worthy of awards.
What do you feel led you to this place on your journey? If applicable, please share how your membership and participation in Southern Breeze helped you reach your goals.
I joined SCBWI in 2008 and wrote three "practice" novels prior to this. Attending SCBWI and Southern Breeze conferences and being part of a crit group with SCBWI writers really formed my writing and my path to publication.
Do you have any advice for Breezers who want to achieve something similar?
Stick with it and keep writing! Never give up!
