Breezers Making Waves: Susan Burnash

“Follow your heart and find a way to make your passion a reality.”

This month’s Breezer Making Waves is Susan Burnash, author of SPOT OR NOT?

Let’s dig into Susan’s news!

Hi Susan. What are we celebrating with you?

The publication of my book Spot or Not?

Congratulations! What does this opportunity mean to you?

A lifelong dream come true. From business writer to children's book author.

What do you feel led you to this place on your journey? If applicable, please share how your membership and participation in Southern Breeze helped you reach your goals.

I was getting close to retirement and decided to learn everything I could about writing for children. I took SCBWI classes, attended conferences, submitted to editors and agents, and finally followed the advice for self-publishing. Without my membership in SCBWI I would not have found all the resources and advice I needed to take the big step.

Do you have any advice for Breezers who want to achieve something similar?

My advice is like many authors' advice: Follow your heart and find a way to make your passion a reality. Sometimes it doesn't go the way you originally planned (traditionally published), but I received enough great critiques and one offer that gave me the confidence to do it myself.
