September 2024 Volunteer Spotlight Interview

Meet Southern Breeze Volunteer Hallie Christensen

An SCBWI member for almost two years, Hallie serves as the Local Liaison for North Alabama.

What do you enjoy about the role?

I love getting to meet up with local authors and illustrators, and being the local liaison for the North, AL region allows me the opportunity to plan get-togethers with everyone! Being from a small town, it's hard to find fellow writers to discuss ideas with and get feedback from, so being able to help organize events for our area is as much fun and beneficial for the other kidlit creators as it is for me!

Tell us a little about your writing.

I'm a middle grade author! That's the voice that I most connect with when it comes to writing. I have an MG Fantasy published (2021) and have three more written, some in revising stages, that will all be going out on subs this fall - MG Fantasy, MG Paranormal, and a MG Cozy Fantasy. I love writing stories filled with adventure and hope! Here's hoping an editor loves them as much as I do! I've made many MG author friends through SCBWI who are always so helpful and supportive. You definitely need a support group with traditional publishing!

What advice would you give to anyone considering volunteering in our region?

Do it! It may seem daunting at first, but you are going to meet so many amazing people and make many connections that will benefit you greatly and help you in your writing journey.
