Words Apart

Olive collects words. Rare words, common words, fancy words, funny words. She expresses herself by writing poetry, making crossword puzzles, and creating dictionary definitions for what she refers to as “neologisms.” Her sister, Mattie, could not be more different. Mattie struggles with words and so instead prefers pictures, expressing herself through cartoons and sketches. Despite their differences, the two girls are inseparable. Or at least, they were. After their dad moves away and Olive develops her first crush, the sisters’ dynamic changes. Olive wants to spend more time with people who aren’t related to her, but Mattie doesn’t want anything to change. When their dad starts acting suspiciously and Mattie’s grades begin to fall, the sisters’ relationship fractures. Olive and Mattie must discover that love isn’t always how we envision it.

Pasta Pasta Lots of Pasta

A family dinner gets out of hand as guest after guest arrives with a different pasta request in this rambunctious rhyming picture book. How much pasta is too much pasta? Ring-a-ding, the doorbell rings, and oh! What did my Nonna bring? Nonna Ana from Catania only likes to eat lasagna. But Nonno Titi from Tahiti only eats his spaghettini! Zio Tony wants ravioli, Zia Trini wants rotini, the cugini want tortellini… Family dinners can be tricky when the guests are oh-so-picky! As the kitchen gets more and more chaotic, can family pasta night go off without a hitch?

School/Library Visit Information

Aimee Lucido's school visits are customized, interactive, fun, and inspirational. She focuses each of them around one of her books, telling the story of the ups and downs of her journey to becoming a published author through the lens of the themes in the book. For a presentation about EMMY IN THE KEY OF CODE, kids will learn about the coding concept of "inclusive or" and apply that to their life. Presentations about WORDS APART will teach kids about the term “contronym” (a word with two contradictory definitions) and discuss how our own definitions can be contronyms too. For younger students, book events about PASTA PASTA LOTSA PASTA include a hands-on pasta necklace activity and a readaloud. Presentations about LUCKY PENNY can include a rock-decorating activity or a shofar-making activity. All presentations are customizable, include a Q&A and book signing, and can be expanded into a writing workshop if so desired.
