What do industry professionals look for when they read the first pages for manuscripts? Ruqayyah Daud, senior editor at Little Brown Books For Young Readers and an author herself, will offer live feedback on anonymous first manuscript page submissions. Whether you choose to submit the first page of your manuscript or just watch, you'll gain insights on how to improve your writing. Ruqayyah is also offering a limited number of post-webinar written critiques, and all participants will have the opportunity to submit to her for a limited time after the event. This webinar will be recorded and recording will be made available for event registrants for 30 days after the event.

Since joining LBYR in August 2018 and Requited in 2025, Ruqayyah Daud has acquired and published a wide range of books from middle grade through new adult. She is drawn to commercial books with a strong hook, emotional core, and vibrant characters. In the young adult and middle- grade markets, she is open to both contemporary realistic fiction (especially in middle grade) and fantasy. She’s a big lover of diverse sweeping fantasies, as well as fantasies rooted in our world. Additionally, she enjoys southern settings and atmospheric small towns. Specifically, she is actively looking to acquire a diverse lush romantic fantasy in the style of Holly Black, Sarah J. Maas, and Kerri Maniscalco. A book with a compelling romance, a unique and mesmerizing world, an exciting magic system, and an unforgettable diverse cast .

Please send the first page of your manuscript to [email protected] by 11pm Eastern Thursday September 17th. Manuscripts will be read and critiqued in order of received and we will get to as many as time allows.
