Join us for a day of curating your illustrator portfolio as we honor keynote speaker and local author-illustrator, Julie Fortenberry. Plus world-class presentations from invited faculty and add ons—an AD assignment, and portfolio reviews.

Keynote Speaker
Julie Fortenberry
Julie has an MFA from Hunter College. Her paintings have been in the Whitney Museum of American Art. She illustrated Pippa at the Parade by Karen Roosa, Eve Bunting’s Pirate Boy, and a series of Sydney Taylor Notable Books by Rabbi Jamie Korngold. She is the author/illustrator of Grandpa and Jake, Darcy's First Sleepover, Pearl Goes to Preschool, The Artist and the King, and Lily’s Cat Mask, which received a Kirkus starred review. Both Lily's Cat Mask and Grandpa and Jake have been added to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. An illustrator of books translated into Spanish and Chinese, Julie is thrilled to see her own words translated into the French and Hungarian editions of Grandpa and Jake. Her picture book, Astronaut Sisters, will be published by Holiday House in 2025.
Meet the Faculty
Meet Maria
Maria Dismondy is an author, publisher & speaker who writes books that encourage and inspire. She also publishes picture books as the founder and CEO of Cardinal Rule Press. Maria's favorite role is mom to three book-living children and two furry dogs.
Meet Sasha
Sasha Illingworth is currently an Associate Art Creative Director at Little Brown Books for Young Readers where she oversees a diverse list of formats including chapter books, middle grade and teen novels, along with select picture books and graphic novels. After earning her BFA in illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design, she moved to New York where she started her career in publishing and illustrated over 30 book covers. Sasha has art directed and designed a diverse list of bestselling and award winning books such as; Thank You Omu (Oge Mora), Saturday (Oge Mora), Malala’s Magic Pencil (Malala Yousafzai/Kerascoet), Hello, Tree (Ana Crespo/Dow Phumiruk), Parks and Recreation: Leslie For Class President (Robb Pearlman/Melanie Demmer), Strong Mama (Robin Arzon/Addy Rivera Sonda), and many more.
Meet Lynnette
Prior to joining The Seymour Agency, Lynnette spent seventeen years freelance editing. She worked with new writers, advanced writers, as well as New York Times and USA Today bestselling authors. Lynnette earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Manitoba, where she specialized in English and French. She excelled in Advanced Creative Writing in university and studied writing for children and teens through the Institute of Children’s Literature. She was a Pitch Wars mentor in 2015 and 2016. Both her mentees acquired an agent. Lynnette has since closed her editing business and is excited to bring her passion for the written word to agenting. Although Lynnette was born and raised Manitoba, Canada, she now lives in Minnesota with her husband, twin girls, and many pets. Her personal interests include reading, writing, exercising at the gym (okay, that’s a love/hate relationship), working on an assortment of crafts, all things having to do with animals (if she could own a farm, zoo, and animal shelter, she would), and enjoying time with family and friends.
