Meet the Faculty

About Eliza

Eliza Wheeler is the author-illustrator of A COZY WINTER DAY, HOME IN THE WOODS, and the New York Times bestselling picture book MISS MAPLE'S SEEDS. She was a recipient of the Sendak Fellowship Award and the SCBWI National Portfolio Showcase Grand Prize, and has illustrated numerous books for children, including WHAT ROSA BROUGHT by Jacob Sager Weinstein, WHEN I'M WITH YOU and WHEREVER YOU GO by Pat Zietlow Miller, John Ronald’s DRAGONS: STORY OF J.R.R. TOLKIEN by Caroline McAlister, and Newbery Honor book DOLL BONES by Holly Black. Eliza grew up in a family of teachers, musicians, and artists in northern Wisconsin. Her creativity was shaped by the wild seasons, canoeing the Brule River, picking blueberries with her grandmother, and digging through the snow with her brothers. She graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design, and spent the formative years after college pursuing children’s book writing and illustration while living in Los Angeles, California. Today, she lives near the lakes of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
