You've heard from fellow authors and illustrators about how they create engaging presentations for students and teachers. Now hear from the librarians about how they find authors and illustrators to bring to their schools. In this follow-up webinar to "From Auditorium to Zoom: School Visits Deconstructed," SCBWI Midsouth presents "Shhh! Librarians Spill Secrets to Successful School Visits".
Creators of books for young people know school librarians are the biggest champions of getting books into the hands of kids and teens. Want a recommendation for a book featuring birds AND a whodunit? Ask a school librarian. Have a reluctant reader? A school librarian can rattle off three titles to try. Love talking animals? Kids who can see ghosts? Graphic novels? Cooking? School librarians have just the book recommendation for every interest. But:
· How do they find authors and illustrators to invite to their schools?
· What are they looking for in a school presentation?
· What challenges do they face in booking a school visit?
· And what can YOU do to catch their eye?
Our experienced panelists include a former Printz Award juror, a Volunteer State Book Awards committee member, a chair for the American Association of School Librarians' Independent Schools section, an executive board member of the Tennessee Association of School Librarians, two former board members of UT’s Center for Children’s and Young Adult Literature, a Schneider Family Book Award reader and a committee member of YALSA’s Great Graphic Novels for Teens list. Together, they serve students in public and private elementary and middle schools and are teaching the next generation of school librarians. But above their impressive credentials, they're passionate about connecting readers with books and the talented people who create the characters and worlds their students love.
