Nevada Mentorship Program

Suzanne would like to mentor a middle grade or young adult novel or nonfiction writer. She looks for work that intrigues her and that still has room for her to help the writer improve. Her mentee should be open to trying new things and listening to suggestions.

Jacci would prefer to mentor a middle grade or young adult fiction writer. She enjoys fantasy and most genres except for sci-fi or romance.

Jenny is looking to mentor a Young Adult, Middle Grade, or Chapter Book writer. She is especially interested in fiction, nonfiction, and stories with a bit of crossover appeal (narrative nonfiction, or fiction with some realistic elements). She is drawn to anything with a spooky, mysterious, or unsettling edge!

Linda would like to mentor a picture book, chapter book or middle grade writer. She loves working with humor, SFF, mystery/crime, horror, and historical subjects. She has a lot of experience with nonfiction and is open to all subject matters, although prefers cats, animals, nature, space, science, and biography.

Naz would like to mentor a Picture Book, Early Reader, Chapter Book, or Middle Grade fiction writer. She would not be interested in nonfiction or rhyming manuscripts.

Kim is looking for a mentee who is writing fiction or nonfiction middle grade or chapter books. She is open to any genre, including fantasy, science fiction, speculative, and contemporary, but would prefer less heavy topics such as grief or abuse. All main characters should be no older than 13 years old for traditional publishing purposes.

Jenna is looking for a mentee who is writing Chapter Book, Picture Book or Middle Grade. Jenna has a great passion for disability representation in kidlit, though stories do not have to be about disability! She loves stories that make great read-alouds, have unique structures, feel like a hug or make her laugh-out-loud.

Teresa is looking for a mentee who writes picture books (fiction, nonfiction, poetry), middle grade nonfiction, or graphic novels (any age). She is open to sci-fi, but not fantasy or novels in verse.

David is interested in mentoring a Board Book, Picture Book, Early Reader, Chapter Book Fiction or Children's Poetry Writer. He enjoys humor, quirky, and unconventional stories.

Bonnie is interested in mentoring a picture book writer/illustrator or children's book illustrator who is developing their portfolio. She is fond of informational fiction, humor and writing with an emotional hook. She also has experience with lyrical writing and nonfiction.

Lydia is looking for a mentee who is working on a board book, early reader, picture book, or graphic novel. Her specialty is nonfiction and/or STEM topics as well as informational fiction.

Angela would like to mentor a non-rhyming picture book or early reader writer. She is particularly interested in lyrical, humorous, or informational fiction picture books. Angela has solid experience with providing revisions and new writer mentoring.

Viviane would like to mentor a picture book writer. She is open to fiction, non-fiction and informational fiction genres. She likes a wide variety of subject matters and reads both younger picture books (3-5 years) and older picture books (4-8 years).

Stephanie is looking for a fiction, nonfiction, or rhyming picture book mentee. She wants to work with someone who is willing to have fun and put in the effort of writing and re-envisioning to make their story the best it can be. As a university professor specializing in children's literature and publishing, she loves working with new writers as they find their voice and create fresh stories.

Laurie is looking for a mentee who is working on non-rhyming picture books, specifically fiction and informational fiction. She like stories with humor and heart. She also appreciates character-driven stories where we see the goals and dreams of a character at the heart of the story.

Lynne Marie is interested in mentoring a writer of chapter books or picture books. She has a wealth of experience with revisions and story development. She is open to critiquing rhyme once the story is sound and would like to avoid politically-driven content.

Pamela is looking for a writer of non-rhyming, fiction picture books, ages 4-8. She loves lyrical writing, quiet stories, and difficult subjects.

MeiLin's preferred genres are: BB, PB, and Early Reader in fiction, info-fiction, and non-fiction (especially STEM and nature but open to other topics). She is open to rhyming text, prose and verse, but not biographies. She loves richly layered stories that are humorous and silly or lyrical and inspirational. She is especially fond of writing that sings and structures or rhythms that elevate the story.

Brittany is looking for a mentee who is writing humorous picture books. She wants to work with someone who acknowledges that easy laughs can be easily forgettable but funny situations and/or funny characters that resonate make up the stories that stick with us.

Meredith is looking for an illustrator interested in picture books and middle grade who would like to illustrate for a diverse audience. Subjects ranging from race, coming of age, emotional regulation and historical fiction are welcome. She is generally open to many genres but leans toward people focused on stories that center minorities.

Mariyah is looking to mentor a picture book illustrator. Specifically, she wants to mentor an artist with Caribbean or Latin American heritage, who enjoys depicting family life, natural environments and animals.
