Southern Breeze Annual Writing Contest: Pitch-a-Palooza

Open to submissions each June

Southern Breeze Annual Writing Contest (Scroll down to view all info tiles)

NEW FORMAT FOR 2025. Please read carefully, as the contest is focused solely on pitches this year.

ENTRIES DUE: Between June 1 – June 30 (midnight, EDT)  OPEN TO: Current SCBWI members living in the Southern Breeze Region. Your membership must be current through October when prizes are awarded to qualify.  ELIGIBILITY Only unpublished and uncontracted work. Should an entry become acquired by a publishing house after the contest opens for submissions, and before the contest winners are announced, that submission becomes disqualified. This allows another deserving Breezer a chance for recognition.

HOW TO ENTER Polish and submit your best 280-character pitch to up to 3 (max) industry professionals. Spots are limited to 100 pitches per judge. Don't wait to enter if there is someone specific you'd like to see your pitch. Spots might fill up!

WHY SHOULD I ENTER THE WRITING CONTEST?

  • The ability to craft a concise pitch with a strong hook is a crucial part of the publishing process.
  • This is a great opportunity to see if your pitch attracts an agent or editor's attention, piques their interest, and makes them ask for more!
  • 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place Winners receive acknowledgment in the Southern Breeze News and social media sites, and of course, bragging rights to potential agents and publishers.

Many, many thanks to Ruth Sabin, our Writing Contest Coordinator, without whom the contest would not be possible! If you have questions about the contest, please send them to [email protected].
