Southern Breeze Annual Writing Contest

Open to submissions each June

Southern Breeze Annual Writing Contest (Scroll down to view all info tiles)

ENTRIES DUE: Between June 1 – June 30 (midnight, EDT)  OPEN TO: Current SCBWI members living in the Southern Breeze Region. Your membership must be current through November when prizes are awarded to qualify.  ELIGIBILITY Only unpublished and uncontracted work. Should an entry become acquired by a publishing house after the contest opens for submissions, and before the contest winners are announced, that submission becomes disqualified. This allows another deserving Breezer a chance for recognition.

HOW TO ENTER Polish and submit only your very best work. It will have stiff competition. Every submission should have been revised, critiqued, and fine-tuned as much as possible. Please read and follow all instructions. Each writer may submit one manuscript.

WHY SHOULD I ENTER THE WRITING CONTEST?

  • Each manuscript receives scoring sheet feedback from one to two published authors, depending on the number of submissions.
  • The top 15 manuscripts in each category move onto the final round and receive feedback from an editor or agent judge!
  • 1st Place Winner gets free conference tuition at our next annual conference.
  • 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place Winners receive acknowledgment in the Southern Breeze News and social media sites, and of course, bragging rights to potential agents and publishers.

Many, many thanks to Ruth Sabin, our Writing Contest Coordinator, without whom the contest would not be possible! If you have questions about the contest, please send them to southern-breeze@scbwi.org.
