How to Format a 280-Character Pitch

Crafting a short pitch is an art that improves with practice. Not unlike pitching a baseball over the strike zone!

Let's face it, 280 characters isn't much real estate to convey the heart of your manuscript to an industry professional. But in the 10+ years of pitch contests, many success stories are out there to be found. Just like the original Twitter pitch contests, in this Pitch-a-Palooza, an agent or editor "like" on your pitch is an invitation to submit to them. So, learn how to format your perfect pitch.

Agent Zabe Ellor offers the following advice: "First, lay out in plain terms what your main character wants, what stands in their way, and what they need to do to get it. Keep it short and simple. Pick words carefully to convey the stakes of the story and the relationships between key characters. Even without tags, we should catch hints of genre, setting, and tone."
