What is PAL? Are you a PAL?
PAL is SCBWI-speak for “Published and Listed." This is sometimes referred to as "commercially published," meaning they are published by traditional publishing houses that do not charge money to authors or illustrators.
Only PAL books are eligible for the Crystal Kite and Golden Kite Awards and may be sold at SCBWI events.
All published children’s books (both PAL and non-PAL) are eligible for the Book Launch Grant, Online Book Launch Parties, and can be sold in the SCBWI Online Bookstore. Only books for children published by a PAL publisher qualify for PAL status.

Don't see yourself on this list and you think you should be?
If your publisher is on the list do not submit a PAL inquiry; it is not necessary. Instead, follow these steps to change your membership status to PAL:
- Click “Member Profile” in the upper right corner of the SCBWI website.
- Select "Share Your Work" under your profile picture, and click “Add A Book.”
- Fill in the information about your book.
- Select your publisher from the dropdown publishers list.
- When you do this, if your book was produced by a PAL Publisher, your membership will automatically change to PAL if it isn’t already PAL.
- Click the green “Publish” button at the bottom of the page.
