Los Angeles Region

C. Harrington Scholarship

In memory of mentor, author, SCBWI-LA regional advisor and friend, Claudia Harrington, SCBWI-Los Angeles is proud to announce the C. Harrington Scholarship.

At the beginning of each year, the scholarship will award one member free tuition to either the LA Region Writers Day or an Illustrator event of the current year, and will include a free editor critique or portfolio review.

In the spirit of Claudia’s dedication and mentorship, the scholarship will be awarded by the Los Angeles Regional Team to a deserving SCBWI-LA member of good standing who would not otherwise be able to attend an event due to financial difficulty. Members may self-nominate or be nominated.

Email nominations of 250 words or less, describing the member’s current need and how this scholarship would benefit them, as well as a current bio of the member, to losangeles@scbwi.org. Accepting applications from January 13, 2024 - February 17, 2024. Please enter C. Harrington Scholarship in the subject line.

About Claudia Harrington

Claudia Harrington (1957-2018)

Children’s Author and Co-Regional Advisor of the Los Angeles Regional Chapter

Claudia Harrington served ten years as Co-Regional Advisor of the Los Angeles Regional Chapter, along with Co-Regional Advisor, Edie Pagliasotti. Through her dedicated service to the LA Chapter, Claudia mentored countless aspiring writers and illustrators towards their dreams of publication. A published author with ABDO Publishing, she penned a series of educational picture books, "My Family" (Vol. 1 & 2), as well as a second series of early chapter books, "Hank the Pet Sitter", which debuted in the spring of 2018. In honor of her support to our community, and in remembrance of her generous spirit, a scholarship fund has been established. The C.
