SCBWI SF North & East Bay serves Alameda, Contra Costa, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, Solano, and Sonoma counties. We're a diverse and vibrant community of writers and illustrators focused on creating children's literature. Through workshops, critiques, networking events, and our Oktoberfest conference, we help each other grow as creators and storytellers. You can select your events of preference and receive announcements just for those events.

Contra Costa County Creative Connections
Join other writers & illustrators to share craft and social time at this FREE, IN-PERSON EVENT! Tables will have prompts to start conversation about writing, illustration, and how we bring the two together. Over a cold drink and eats, we welcome shares of your favorite illustration or short story pitch, but it's not required!
Dos, Don'ts, Tips & Tools for Introducing Backstory
Backstory can make or break a manuscript. Learn how to use it effectively with Dean Gloster. Join SCBWI San Francisco North & East Bay for a 90-minute Zoom class on inserting backstory without slowing your story down. Dean Gloster, former Regional Advisor for our region, will cover why backstory matters, why writers often include too much too soon, and practical techniques for revealing the right information at the right time.
Marin County Critique & Support Meet Up (June 2026)
Calling all Marin SCBWI members (and non-members!)– let’s create a local critique/support group IRL! There will be scheduled live meet-ups every second month to share works in progress, offer new ideas for feedback, and share updates on our process toward publication!
