SCBWI Oregon’s Great Critique is an event that happens once a year. Each session is an awesome opportunity for writers and illustrators to be critiqued by a professional and their peers. ⭐ Registration opens August 4th at 7 pm. ⭐

May's Featured Illustrator, Audrey Sauble, is a children's author and science illustrator whose love of nature finds its way into everything she creates. What began as a conversation with her toddler about egg-laying animals sparked her first picture book—and nine years later, she's the author of Acorn Party and a growing series of nature nonfiction for kids. Trained through the science illustration program at CSU Monterey Bay, Audrey pushes her work by varying angles, staying curious, and doodling freely before ever touching a thumbnail. She reminds new illustrators that picture book art isn't just pretty—it's the 'show' in 'show, don't tell.

Each season we feature a different Illustrator's work on our homepage. This season we feature the work of Heidi Aubrey. Heidi lives among the trees just outside Portland, Oregon, on six acres with her husband and a Pembroke Welsh corgi named Leo. Her debut picture book is "Ada and the Goat" (2025, Holiday House / Neal Porter Books).
